Growing up, I loved all the songs we sang at church. I remember fondly the hymn, “Open my eyes, that I may see…” or the chorus, Open my Eyes Lord, I want to see Jesus…” As believers in Christ we should all have the desire for our spiritual eyes to be open as we grow closer and closer in our walk with him. If we seek Him, we too will have our eyes opened! The Holy Spirit living in us will illumine our minds. As He works, we begin to see more and more the same way God sees things. The scriptures make sense. We can see God working behind the scenes. We become less afraid. We can discern good and evil around us. And sometimes, we even receive words from God to deliver to others, or spiritual visions or dreams.
It is the job of people with these prophetic gifts to keep the people in the church on the right path. Because they have the gift of seeing in spirit, they see not only with their eyes, but with their hearts. So how do we learn to shift our focus from seeing with our eyes to seeing with our heart? We must pray for God to open our eyes! We must desire to see things as God sees them.
Elisha, too, could see in the spirit. He could see the angels of the Lord working on our behalf.

Hymn Lyrics
Open my eyes, that I may seeGlimpses of truth Thou hast for me;Place in my hands the wonderful keyThat shall unclasp and set me free.Silently now I wait for Thee,Ready my God, Thy will to see,Open my eyes, illumine me,Spirit divine!
Open my ears, that I may hearVoices of truth Thou sendest clear; And while the wave notes fall on my ear,Everything false will disappear.
Open my mind, that I may readMore of Thy love in word and deed; What shall I fear while yet Thou dost lead?Only for light from Thee I plead.
Open my mouth, and let me bear,Gladly the warm truth everywhere;Open my heart and let me prepare
Love with Thy children thus to share.
